Problem Solved (Kind Of)

Through a half-baked answer I didn’t really understand from WP.org I finally figured out what happened to the dashboard drop down menu on the App. I’ve always hated the “New and Improved Posting Experience” option that comes up when you add a new post while using a PC. Since they never forced you to use it, I never did and stuck to the “old-fashioned” and obviously antiquated dashboard menu screens. (in their eyes anyway). Finding WP very easy to learn when I started blogging last year without needing to memorize 100 icons and shortcuts, it always worked well for me. This is especially true for uploading pictures from my Iphone, the source of most blog pictures.

Apparently, the developers decided it’s too bad on those of us who don’t want to use the “old version” of posting and the only way to use things you’d use in a new post (like adding new images or videos to the media library) must now be used via the “new and improved posting experience“. After hours of playing around I still see nothing that replaced the “Media Library” menu option and the alternative I see is to go to the “Featured Image” option which brings up a Media Library option where you can upload new pictures, documents or videos, despite the fact I’m not trying to add a featured image at that point. There must be an easier way to do this but I guess I’m not hip enough to figure it out. So posting on the Ipad now means I’m forced to learn their wonderful new and improved posting system.

If anyone knows how to get back into the media library as seen below via the “new and improved” posting experience, please let me know

So please excuse any crappy posts once we leave for Australia next week while I figure out how to re-learn the art of blogging in the New and Improved WordPress World. Should anyone know another way to add new images to the media library via the app, please share this with me and comment. I usually upload all new images I want to use before I begin the post

Sorry for the interruption and we now return to regularly scheduled Experimental Expat Life.

I just went through a bulk delete of my media/photo gallery to get rid of all the duplications. Then I started over. Not everyone has a smartphone (believe it or not), so I have to use photos from my Nikon downloaded to my PC, and then uploaded when I start a new post. I can upload more than one at a time, but I rarely use more than 3 or 4 in a post. I, too, miss the old-fashioned posting page. I now have to use the toolbar to align the image with the text, and resize the image in place instead of selecting a size. But it’s still free, so I don’t complain too much.

Don’t use the app. Just log on to WordPress on your iPad browser and it looks exactly like it looks on the PC (your picture on top) so you can still do it the old way. I have never used the app and l am still old school like you.

Holy crap; I never even thought of that. Like almost everything else today, when you use the webpage on a pad or phone, it always sticks the app option in your face and sometimes it’s difficult to even find the non-app webpage.

But I will try ths. Since we usually carry our phone and not pad, I usually take pics on the phone, upload them to my gallery and then use the pad to post (Or the PC id we’re not traveling). Since the webpage is so little on a phone I just thought using the app was easier but like you, I hate change (except leaving my cubicle and retiring of course; lol)

      Thanks

Nope; This does not work. Even if I manually type in the exact same website as I’m looking at on the PC as I write this to my Iphone or Ipad, it brings up the new dashboard which no longer includes an option to go to the sidebar dashboard I’ve always used with the PC. It’s been replaced by the little WP icon and if you then click WP Admin on that menu it takes you right back where you were to begin with. The only If you’re still able to access this on a phone you must not be using the latest version. They’ve permanently changed the functionality of the webpage an app on devices.

The stupid part is they kept other dashboard options like Themes, Publish (for posts), Menus, Sharing, People, Domains, Settings and Stats but deleted the “Media” option. This is incredibly stupid in my opinion. Thanks developers

That is so strange. I was typing it on my ipad just to make sure it hasn’t changed and mine still shows the old way. That being said..l have upgraded to latest version, it is so strange that it’s happening to you. I would suggest upgrading again..you know it says “you are running latest” but you can reinstall it and see if it fixes it. It sounds like a glitch.

I uninstalled and re-installed on both Ipad and Iphone and the same thing happens. I’ve now been told twice by wp.com forum that it’s not their problem and they tell me to go the app forum on wp.org. I’ve done this twice and nobody seems to understand or help. I’m at a loss and about ready to give up blogging

Just went back and saw there was an update on 12/26 to the WP App. I have my devices on automatic updates so I’m guessing they f**ked it up. I’ve also read on the app reviews that other people are having trouble with images in the last few eeks. Someone summed it up: 5 stars for the company and 2 stars for the app

I’m on WP.com; I’m not self-hosted (WP.org); but since moving to Malaysia, we had no PC for 4 months while it was being shipped from the USA. We used to take pictures on a camera and throw them on the PC via flash drives but since moving here and getting new IPhones, almost all our pics are from the phone. I’ve been using the “media/add new” function and uploading before I post something but the “media gallery” has apparently been replaced by the photo library. So on the app I’ve found only two ways to upload photos from the phone or Ipad’s photo gallery to the WP gallery; The first way is to add a new post, click the little mountain icon (which is now the “add media”) and get an option to add photos. The other way is click “set featured image” where there’s also an option to add photos to the photo gallery. I find this annoying and liked clicking “WP admin” and seeing the same menu I can see on the old dashboard when I use the PC

Sadly, this is now gone so I’m still trying to get the feel of a fast easy way to upload pics from Iphone to the WP image gallery. In my world, I never understood why WP ever made people upload to a gallery. Why can’t we just add images and video right from devices since the whole world lives on smartphones anyway?

    Hi Merrill
Thanks for helping. Sorry this didn’t come out as a reply: hopefully you or someone else reads it

I think I kind of understand now but if I want to randomly add a few photos or a video to the WP photo library can I do that without starting a new post? Or do I need to pretend I’m starting a new post and then use the mountain icon to add stuff to the photo library? I know it’s overly “anal” but we have weak internet signals where we live so it often takes awhile to upload the pics. I like to have them already uploaded to the blog before I begin writing. I don’t always know what style to use or where I want to add them because my posts usually go off on a different tangent than I start with. Therefore I rarely just add pics in the post while I’m writing: I usually add text first
    Thanks

I’m not good with changes either, but to add photos on the new wp app was in improvement imo. Put your cursor to the place you want the photo and click on the little photo app. It’s the first icon of the mountain and it takes you to your photo library. You don’t have a media library any longer.

How do I upload new photos ? I need to upload to what used to be the media library using the app because almost everything I do is from my iPhone and it’s a pain in the ass to copy Apple anything to a PC. Can I now add them directly to the post from the camera roll?
